Learning Opportunities

There are two kinds of learning opportunities identified and planned for all new staff.

All new staff including care staff and trained overseas staff must complete in house induction to Skills For Care standard programme, which is covered over a period of 12 weeks.This programme is conducted by our NVQ training Assessor. The induction programme includes:

  • Personal Care

  • Prevention of Abuse of
  • Vulnerable Adults

Clinically linked activities are on-going with the mentors. These include:

  • Administration of Medication
  • Wound Management
    Authentication
  • Admission & Assessment of new Residents
  • Implementation & follow up of care Plans
  • Chronic Disease Management
  • Care of the Dying and Last Offices
  • Floor Management
  • Discharges of residents to the Community
  • Reflective Learning.

Reviews are on-going and families are encouraged to participate

The student nurse is required to keep a portfolio of their learning and evaluation with their mentor. Further learning needs will be identified for the mentors to facilitate optimum outcome.

Other range of learning opportunities identified

Brooklands Nursing Home advocates a multi- professional approach and a range of professionals undertake visits to our home. Students have the opportunity to participate in the high standard of care delivered to our residents.

A quality assurance system is in place whereby 6 monthly audits are carried out.
Care plans, accidents, infection and wound management are regularly assessed and the appropriate plans implemented.
